Grammar notes

她八点才起床,因为她睡得太晚了。 — She got up at eight because she slept too late.
- 才 (cái) — later than expected
才 before a verb marks that something happened late or only after a condition. Compare 就 (earlier than expected).
今天她八点才起床。 — Today she didn't get up until eight.
- V + 了 — completed action
了 after a verb marks completion. With a duration, 了 goes between verb and duration: 站了三十分钟.
她站了三十分钟。 — She stood for thirty minutes.
